Previous Projects
Herbaceous Border Construction
The prestigious Prestonfield Hotel contracted us to install a herbaceous border with pinnacles and also a tree-lined avenue with pinnacles.
Stone Wall and Raised Patio Construction
The customer had a rough sketch of the design to extend his garden, demolish an existing garage and improved his outdoor space. We produced an engineering drawing and commissioned carved step detail and coping stones for the wall from a local yard.
Back Garden Refurbishment
This garden was unusable for the family who had young children. We completed overhauled the top section making the soil viable for planting and replacing the lawn with artificial grass and black limestone paving. We removed approximately 20 tonnes of material from this garden.
Grass in terrible condition, soil profile terrible, loads of gravel mistakenly added to improve drainage. Dog is main user of garden.
We had to lay the artificial grass first here in order to butt the paving up directly against the edge. This meant masking off the grass when laying the paving on a bed of mortar (messy).
It was decided at this late point to dig out poor soil / gravel and replace with an enriched soil / compost / fertiliser mix.
Sedum Roof Installation
Presonfield Hotel wanted a bin storage area that was discretely screened from view from guest bedrooms. The metal skeleton was installed by a blacksmith and our team and we clad the sides in pre-painted plywood and installed the sedum roof. Sedum is a drought-tolerant succulent that requires very little maintenance.
Sandstone Paving and Fence
The customer wanted his overgrown front garden removed, he wanted to maintain his privacy and store valuable motorcycles in an off-street secure location.
Overgrown Privet hedge to be removed, driveway for offstreet parking of motorbikes and garage to be erected with fence and gates.
Colinton Village Steps
The original steps were damaged and dangerous, the customer wanted the steps reinstalled to match their grand doorway and the detailing of the house.
Colinton Steps 1 Aug 2015
Halfway through demolition of steps. The steps had drifted away from the front door. The foundation was inadequate and the mortar and render had become weak.
Complete reconstruction of foundations. To prevent the steps drifting away from building we dug two large columns at the top step and installed steel reinforced piles. The other steps were cast with reinforcing steel mesh.
Turfing Balerno
The customer wanted a large lawn area for their young children. The photos don’t reflect how the job began but the entire garden was full of mature shrubs, which were all cleared and uprooted. The lawn was then laid creating a large open space.
